Agar Agar E number is E406

Also known by its Japanese name Kanten, Agar or Agar Agar is derived from Gracilaria. Agar due to its high gelling properties is considered the queen of gelling agents. Agar added to liquids simply gels them into a convenient solid form. Agar agar has stronger setting properties and, unlike gelatin which requires refrigeration to set, it will set at room temperature after about an hour.
It’s dried and sold in powder form, flakes or bars and is also used as a stabiliser or thickener in many food products. Agar Agar E number is E406.Agar Agar is widely available in health food stores, good quality supermarkets that carry health food lines, Asian grocery stores and online.
Use agar agar powder for your cooking needs.
1.Dissove 1 tablespoon of agar agar in 4 tablespoons of hot water; this may need up to 10 minutes
2.Bring it to the boil
3.Simmer for one to five minutes for powder and 10 - 15 minutes for flakes
4.Mix well with warmed ingredients
5.Put aside to set. As the ingredients cool, the agar agar will set.
Some food additives do have the potential to be harmful, and thus should be avoided. This agar agar food additive is added to a countless number of foods that we may eat daily. It’s found in almost everything we eat. Try finding a hamburger without trans fats in them, it is nearly impossible. Take your time, and read thoroughly your food labels, and be sure to choose foods that have minimum processing.
Others: semi refined carrageenan        Cassia Gum          Carboxy Methyl Cellulose
