Chondroitin sulfate is a chemical that is normally found in cartilage around joints in the body. Chondroitin sulfate is manufactured from animal sources, such as cow cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate is used for osteoarthritis. It is often used in combination with other products, including manganese ascorbate, glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine hydrochloride, or N-acetyl glucosamine. But as far as we know, chondroitin sulfate isn’t absorbed through the skin. That would mean that any benefit from these creams and ointments is due to some other ingredient.
Be sure to follow product directions. When taken at doses slightly higher than the recommended dose, these products can sometimes supply more than the safe daily intake of manganese, which is 11 mg per day. Taking more than 11 mg per day of manganese might significantly poison the central nervous system. Chondroitin sulfate is a chemical that is normally found in cartilage around joints in the body. Chondroitin sulfate is often sold in combination products that also contain glucosamine sulfate. So far, there is no evidence that the combination products work any better than either chondroitin sulfate or glucosamine sulfate alone. Buying a combination product is probably not worth any extra cost. There isn't enough information to know if chondroitin sulfate is effective for other conditions people use it for, including: heart disease, osteoporosis (weak bones), or high cholesterol.
Chondroitin Sulfate as a food additives is used in the cartilage part of the joints in the body. Joint cartilage is made up of cells that are embedded in a gelatinous substance that contains collagen and a watery gel as well as proteoglycans. Chondroitin Sulfate supplements, usually taken with glucosamine sulfate supplements, can be converted into proteoglycans to provide lubrication and support for these joints. Chondroitin Sulfate supplements have very few known side effects and are well tolerated in over 90% of people.
Other food additives: Vitamin E Xanthan Gum
